Of course Law Week is about so much more than the sash (which unfortunately has failed to reappear this year). In 2013, Law Week is taking on the challenging issues of justice and rights that affect Victorians and offering valuable insight into the law and legal system.
There are some great events throughout the week, so don’t miss this opportunity to join the justice debate and find out about your legal rights. New events this year include a tour and talk from the RMIT Centre for Innovative Justice on Justice: past, present and future and a Q&A session where veteran crime journalist Geoff Wilkinson will be asking the Sentencing Advisory Council’s Professor Arie Freiberg some tough questions on sentencing.
Deakin University’s Centre for Rural Regional Law and Justice will for the first time be hosting a video conference forum about the National Disability Insurance Scheme. This will be syndicated to 14 locations across Victoria and is a great opportunity for people from all over the state to take part in Law Week.
Some popular events are back again this year like the Supreme Court History and Heritage Tour, mock trials during Courts Open Day, local court tours and information sessions on everything from discrimination to copyright to seniors assets. There really is something for everyone.
Take a look at the online program to find out what’s on across Victoria during the week. And keep an eye on the Law Week facebook page and follow us on Twitter for your chance to win great Law Week prizes, including highly sought after tickets to the Supreme Court dungeon tours. Because everyone loves free stuff, don’t they?
It’s going to be a busy month. Our Law Week 2013 posters and postcards will hit the streets soon, and we are adding new events to the online program every day. But we couldn’t bring you such a great Law Week festival on our own.
Special thanks must go to our Law Week 2013 event partner, the City of Melbourne, to our sponsors, the Law Institute of Victoria and the Institute of Legal Executives, and to Victoria’s legal sector for their support.
See you at a Law Week event!
